Little that Jaranard Thomas, the man accused of causing a Rialto SWAT officer’s death, has told police is true.

He is not Jaranard Thomas. He is Kris Antonio Wiggins, 32, a man who skipped bail in Grenada, Miss., and passed on a plea bargain for selling rock cocaine.

Instead, he went on the lam and landed in California.

Wiggins, who also uses the aliases “BeDuke” and “Short Dog,” left behind a wife who has, for years, sought divorce on grounds of

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies were suspicious when they could not find any records – other than two traffic tickets – that traced back to Thomas.

He does not have a California driver’s license or any identification, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Beavers. He also doesn’t have a criminal record in San Bernardino, Riverside or Los Angeles counties, and the state Department of Corrections also has no record of him.

Investigators used fingerprints to learn Wiggins’ real name on Saturday. They also found he has had an active $100,000 warrant for selling rock cocaine in Mississippi since 2002.

“This validates (Rialto police’s) suspicion that Wiggins was involved in some sort of criminal activity,” Beavers said.

Police burst into Wiggins’ West Cascade Drive apartment Thursday with a search warrant in hand allowing them to seize any cocaine, drug proceeds or weapons.

A judge granted the warrant because a confidential informant bought $20 worth of rock cocaine at the apartment from a man identified as “Greedy,” according to court documents.

Wiggins was arrested Thursday morning after the drug raid ended in the death of a four-year SWAT veteran.

Officer Sergio Carrera Jr., a 29-year-old father of two, was shot in the head while a SWAT officer scuffled with Wiggins in the apartment.
