An “armed and dangerous murder suspect” and his girlfriend are behind bars Sunday, after authorities arrested them in connection with the killing of a 26-year-old man shot dead out of jealousy, a Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

A tipster told authorities where to find suspect Antonie Faust, 21, who was hiding in Fort Lauderdale after the Saturday morning killing of Andre Hall in Pompano Beach, Sheriff’s spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said. Detectives tracked down Faust and arrested him Saturday evening on first-degree murder. They also arrested Faust’s girlfriend Mercedes Forbes, 19, on a charge of accessory to first-degree murder, after the fact, Coleman-Wright said.

“The possible motive in this case is jealousy,” Coleman-Wright said in a news release sent late Saturday. “BSO homicide detectives said it appears Faust was upset that Hall was talking to a female acquaintance who lived where the fatal shooting occurred.”

Hall’s killing at the Regency Apartments in the 1500 block of Northwest 17th Avenue in Pompano Beach occurred about 6 a.m. Saturday. It was one of three homicides in Broward County that day, which brought the year-to-date homicide total for the county to 95, just one fewer than for all of 2006.
